The Fever Code gives the reader an extraordinary perspective on the causes and effects of human activity. Imagine waking up one day, having your siblings taken away because of a deadly plague. Imagine having to undergo brutal tests every week for nothing. Imagine being treated like vermin, despite the fact that you’re a key to a cure. Stephen had to go through all of those. In fact, for 16 years, nonstop.
When Stephen was 6 years old, he had his father taken away from him, because of a plague that drove him insane. Right after that, he was sent to WICKED, for testing, and for people to find a cure to the plague. Weeks stretched into months. Months stretched into years. Long hours of brain scans, blood sampling, etc. It made me think about how humans are the ones that are trying to solve the problems that we made in the first place. It made me think about how the things we do now have consequences in the future.
