The Queen is the story of Queen Amberly, a glimpse of her life while she was competing in the selection for Prince Clarkson’s hand. We get to see her life, her family, and the real Amberly beneath all the façade of grandiose we saw of her in The Selection.
It was plainly obvious that Amberly was going to be the queen but it still was delightful to read of how she came to the throne. Prince Clarkson doesn’t seem as bad as he was, as a king. But his thirst for power and his desire to have control is obvious here too, even though the impact is slightly lessened while seeing it through the rose-colored eyes of Amberly.
This was a really good short novella told from Queen Amberly’s point of view whilst she herself was part of the selection. I liked finding out what happened to Queen Amberly, and how King Clarkson asked her to marry him. It was also nice seeing things from their point of view rather than from America’s point of view, as there were obviously things about Amberly and Clarkson that American had no idea about.
