About Janeway Immunobiology 9th Edition PDF

The definitive text—completely updated and revised.

Janeway’s Immunobiology is a textbook for students studying immunology at the undergraduate, graduate, and medical school levels. As an introductory text, students will appreciate the book’s clear writing and informative illustrations, while advanced students and working immunologists will value its comprehensive scope and depth. Janeway’s Immunobiology presents immunology from a consistent point of view throughout-that of the host’s interaction with an environment full of microbes and pathogens.

The Ninth Edition has been thoroughly revised bringing the content up-to-date with significant developments in the field, especially on the topic of innate immunity, and improving the presentation of topics across chapters for better continuity.

Janeway Immunobiology 9th Edition PDF Book Features

  • A consistent viewpoint promotes understanding: This text presents the immune system from the point of view of the host’s interaction with an environment full of microbes and pathogens. New for the Ninth Edition, the text is now organized around the concept of modular immune responses, combining innate and adaptive immunity into effector modules and explaining the integration of the innate and adaptive immune response.
  • Updated to reflect the latest research advances: The pace of discovery in immunology moves fast. New or expanded coverage includes: the latest developments on innate lymphoid cells and innate sensing mechanisms, including cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS) and activation of the STING pathway, an in-depth handling of follicular helper T cells and their role in B-cell class switching and affinity maturation, cytoskeletal reorganisation and integrin activation in antigen receptor signaling, expanded coverage on Akt and mTOR signaling, and more.
  • Tools to assess understanding: End-of-chapter questions have been completely revised and include a variety of question types to help students review important concepts. Additionally, the test bank, written by Leslie Berg (University of Massachusetts Medical School), features a comprehensive set of questions to assess student understanding.

Reviewer: Gudrun F Debes, DVM (Thomas Jefferson University)

Description: This is the ninth edition of a classic in-depth immunology book tailored toward graduate, undergraduate, and medical students. Given its depth and currency of knowledge, it is also suitable for practicing immunologists and advanced trainees, such as postdoctoral fellows. Online resources are available for instructors as well as students and include PowerPoint slides of all figures, movies and animations, exam questions, flashcards, and an online glossary of terms. The previous edition was published in 2011.

Purpose: The aim is to present a comprehensive book written from the host’s perspective in the struggle with the microbial world while covering other clinically relevant areas of immunology, such as autoimmunity and immunodeficiencies, allergy, transplant rejection, and cancer immunotherapy. This immunology-centered view contrasts with that of many other books that cover immunology as part of another discipline, such as microbiology or hematology. It is a very useful approach for anybody whose main interest is getting an understanding of immunology. The book provides more details than average immunology books and is useful for acquisition of more in-depth knowledge of the subject. The additional online resources are useful for learning and teaching.

Audience: The book is written for students, and its intended audience is undergraduate students, as well as graduate and medical students, in addition to practicing immunologists. While this is an excellent textbook of immunology for the graduate and postgraduate level and highly interested undergraduate students, it appears to be too detailed for the average undergraduate student. The authors are well-established experts in the field of immunology.

Assessment: The quality of the book is excellent, and I recommend it to my own students as well as laboratory trainees. It is the most comprehensive textbook of immunology that I am aware of. It is suitable for anybody interested in acquiring in-depth knowledge of immunology or who works in immunology-related fields and would like a reliable compendium. The ninth edition reflects the knowledge gained over the past six years in various areas of immunology, ranging from innate lymphoid cell biology to cancer immunotherapy.Doody’s Review Service

“Now in a fully updated and expanded ninth edition “Janeway’s Immunobiology” continues to be the premier textbook for students studying immunology at the undergraduate, graduate, and medical school levels. As an introductory text, students will appreciate the clear writing and informative illustrations, while advanced students and working immunologists will value its comprehensive scope and depth. This new edition of “Janeway’s Immunobiology” presents immunology from a consistent point of view throughout — that of the host’s interaction with an environment full of microbes and pathogens. Now thoroughly revised ninth edition brings the content up-to-date with significant developments in the field, especially on the topic of innate immunity, and improving the presentation of topics across chapters for better continuity.”
