The Agathas by Kathleen Glasgow and Liz Lawson Audiobook Summary
Last summer, Alice Ogilve’s basketball-star boyfriend Steve dumped her. Then she disappeared for five days. Where she went and what happened to her is the biggest mystery in Castle Cove, because she’s not talking. Or it was, at least. But now, another one of Steve’s girlfriends have vanished: Brooke Donovan, Alice’s ex–best friend. And it doesn’t look like Brooke will be coming back. . .
Enter Iris Adams, Alice’s tutor. Iris has her own reasons for wanting to disappear, though, unlike Alice, she doesn’t have the money or the means. That could be changed by the hefty reward Brooke’s grandmother is offering to anyone who can share information about her granddaughter’s whereabouts. The police are convinced Steve is the culprit, but Alice isn’t so sure, and with Iris on her side, she just might be able to prove her theory.
In order to get the reward and prove Steve’s innocence, they need to figure out who killed Brooke Donovan. And luckily Alice has exactly what they need—the complete works of Agatha Christie. If there’s anyone that can teach the girls how to solve a mystery it’s the master herself. But the town of Castle Cove holds many secrets, and Alice and Iris have no idea how much danger they’re about to walk into.
The Agathas by Kathleen Glasgow Book Review
I couldn’t clap harder for this brilliant duo who wrote something even better than the one of us is lying series and helped me find a new addiction after the end of A good girl’s guide to murder trilogy!
I fell in love with Agathas! Such a fantastic tribute to one of my all-time favourite authors!
I truly devoured Kathleen Glasgow’ previous works: angsty, emotional, realistic young adult novels: including Girl in pieces, her best work: “How to make friends with the dark” and” You’d be home now” that lately I reviewed with five blazing stars! I also read Liz Lawson’s brilliant, heartfelt debut “Lucky Ones”.
I’m so happy those aspiring authors who ripped my heart several times with their extra angsty, traumatic, realistic words and admirable characters teamed up to create something special. They wrote in a different genre and they absolutely nailed it!
This book is unputdownable, exciting, definitely heart-throbbing- nail biter- Hercule Poirot’s little grey cells burner- a mysterious- entertaining gem! I am a big fan of YA mysteries and this book gave me everything I need; Such a great plot, sarcastic and smart storytelling tone, adorable detective duo: Alice ( unconventional, bold, impulsive, smart, famous Gone Girl of school) and Iris: nerdy, intelligent, insecure, tough, resilient, mature. )
Alice belongs to Mains: a popular group of the school till she’s dumped by her boyfriend who starts dating her best friend Brooke. After she confronts them, she disappears and five days later she comes back as if nothing has happened! Iris; belongs to Zones, dealing with a more serious problem, raised by her mother who is a bartender, barely making ends meet, tutoring Alice to earn enough money to get the hell out of the town because some THING is out there to threaten her family.
When Alice’s ex-friend Brooke who is a boyfriend stealer gets missing, two girls team up to solve a mystery. Alice has concerns about her friend’s well being and Iris needs reward money to solve the case and get out of town! The pacing, character development, the Zoners (a least popular group of school) as side characters were perfectly developed. The ending was foreseeable but at least there was no plot hole and we got all the answers we need!
I think I need at least 5 more Agathas books! I’m craving it right now! I wish there were more books! I already got addicted! I can sing Robert Palmer’s popular classic with new lyrics; “ Might as well face it, I’m addicted to this series”
I cannot wait to read more adventures of Agathas! I already missed them!
